As gay kids growing up in rural Ontario, Jared Lenover and Chris Farias didn’t have positive role models from the LGBTQ2S+ community to look up to. There were no safe spaces, or places to go to just be themselves. The shame of being closeted in a world before marriage equality or trans rights, made it very difficult to be the people they were meant to be.
Lucky for these two, it got better. They met in Hamilton, Ontario in 2008, formed a bond, fell in love, and created a business (The Unicorn Rebellion) where they could help organizations and people find their brilliant truth. For Chris and Jared, people come before profits, and community is at the heart of commerce.
After 10 years of partnership, and respect for each other, this dynamic duo created The Unicorn Fund the month they were legally married in Canada. When the fund reaches its goal of $25,000, it will support opportunities for the LGBTQ2S+ community to shine, and a chance to speak their brilliant truth. The Unicorn Fund has been put in place to make sure our city supports every colour in the rainbow, and that all LGBTQ2S+ kids and their families feel like they belong.
